Filter who you keep

Segments decide who survives the list — keyword, negative keyword, country, state and gender. Everybody who fails is counted and dropped, never stored.

A segment is the rule that decides who stays on the list. Build it on the Segments tab.

What you can filter on

  • Keyword — text that must appear, usually in a bio or job line
  • Negative keyword — text that removes somebody, which is the one people forget
  • Country and state — where they are
  • Gender — where Facebook exposes it

Negative keywords do more work than positive ones. If you sell to salon owners, "stylist seeking chair" is the person you do not want, and one negative keyword removes a whole category of wasted request.

Start narrower than feels right

The instinct is to cast wide so the list is long. A long list of the wrong people costs you the same requests as a short list of the right ones, and requests are the scarce thing here — the governor caps you at 50 a day by design.

People who fail your filters are not kept

They are counted and dropped in memory. There is no member database of people you did not contact — not on your machine, and not on ours. The number in the preview tells you how many were considered; the names it did not keep are gone the moment the pass finishes.
